How does social media engage communications?
Social media allows for real-time communication, enabling individuals to engage in immediate conversations and exchanges of information. Discord is a good example, whether through comments, replies, or direct messages, social media facilitates quick and direct communication between individuals or groups.
How does social media challenge communications?
Social media platforms are inundated with vast amounts of information, making it challenging to filter through the noise and identify reliable and accurate content. The sheer volume of information can lead to information overload, making it difficult to engage in meaningful conversations and discern credible sources.
Is it inclusive?
It is hard to define whether social media platform is inclusive or not. I believe that inclusivity requires creating safe and welcoming spaces on social media platforms. Users should be protected from harassment, hate speech, and discrimination. Platform policies and moderation systems play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive environment by addressing harmful behaviors and maintaining community standards. However, nowadays, some people still be attacked by strangers on various platforms.
Does your PLN amplify the views of others?
The answer is YES. I think that amplifying the views of others not only enriches the conversations within a PLN but also helps to challenge biases, break echo chambers, and create opportunities for learning and growth.

Hi Rick! I appreciate your comment about inclusivity in social media and that all individuals should be protected from hate and discrimination. Cyber bullying has significantly increased with the rising popularity of various social media platforms, and I believe that stricter regulations should be enforced to ensure users remain protected. One way to reduce cyber bullying is to continue to raise awareness in schools and to encourage students to seek help from their parents, peers, or teachers. Overall, awesome post and thank you for sharing!

Hi Roubekas, thanks for your taking time to read my blog. Just like you said, reducing cyber bullying needs to be taken seriously, and protect the privacy of each individual in the internet.

Hi, Rick
Yeah, it is hard to define “inclusive” on social media platforms. Platform policies and moderation systems have been created to protect the platforms users, but many of the users continue to experience attacks or negative comments on social media platforms. I don’t think most of the platforms are “inclusive” in perfect.
Thanks for sharing!

Hello Rick, thank you for sharing this wonderful blog. I agree that people are able to directly communicate with others synchronously wherever they are in the world via social media, and social media also challenges communication by gathering lots of information with probably non-reliable information. However, I also believe that social media also save time for people to get the information they need by setting digital identity and they provide more accessibility for disabled people to get involved in the community. On the other hand, due to the digital identity on social media, the information recommended to people is mostly based on their interests, so this may prevent people from certain information and is not good for developing critical thinking abilities. Besides, as everyone has different points of views, it is easy to start a quarrel on social media and sometimes it can even become cyberbullying. This also aligns with your argument of non-inclusive property of social media. I also believe that the fast development of social media is not very inclusive for people who have mental disorders as their emotions may be ignored in the online environment. Lastly, I cannot agree more with you opinions that employers should have some mechanisms to prevent leakage of sensitive information and data about their companies and employees also need to obey these rules.

Thanks for your comment. For the mental disorders, a good network environment is vital, compared to normal people they are more sensitive to all kinds of speech, so we need to establish a inclusive network environment.
